I can’t decide if today’s Trending @ 10 is a dream come true OR a disaster waiting to happen.
According to Variety, the crossover movie of ’23 Jump Street’ and ‘Men in Black’ is definitely a GO!
No one was sure that it would still happen after the surprise leaked during the big Sony hack scandal in 2014. BUT, worry no more, because it’s happening!
Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill WILL come back for their roles as Jenko and Schmidt, but Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones WON’T be Agents Jay and Kay.
…and that’s where things get a little hairy for me. I feel like, if you’re going to do a crossover with two franchises that were/are THIS big, you should probably use the original cast, no? Maybe that’s just me.
Apparently, they’re trying to restart the ‘Men in Black’ franchise with younger actors, which is why they aren’t using Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones. I’ll be interested to see who they choose as replacements, because I’ve never been a fan of sequels that don’t use the original cast.
ANYWAY, James Bobin will be the director – he’s done “The Muppets” and “Flight of the Concords” – and production should start around June!
With the present information, I’m still on the fence about all of this. But who knows, maybe it’ll be great?! Will you go see it or not?
