The gang from “Sesame Street” got dressed up for their big night at the Kennedy Center Honors, and Thomas Rhett was there to help them celebrate.

Elmo joined Lucy Liu to introduce the ACM Male Vocalist of the Year. “Elmo, how are you?” the singer asked as he arrived on stage. “Good to see you again. I’ve been on a lot of roads touring and playing music, but there is no street quite like Sesame Street.”

As the Cookie Monster, Grover, Big Bird, and Bert and Ernie suddenly appeared, Rhett began to sing "This is My Street" in tribute to the classic children’s TV show. The audience then joined in when Rhett and the Muppets segued into “Sing a Song.” Rhett called it a career highlight.

“My heart just now started to slow down a bit,” he gushed backstage. “That was one of the coolest things I’ve ever gotten to do in my career… It’s such a big part of everyone in that crowd’s childhood. My parents watched it. I watched it. I’ve been showing a bunch of the old episodes to my kids and it’s kind of a full circle moment for me as well.

Rhett and his wife and daughters can actually say they’ve been to Sesame Street. They paid a visit last year around this time and shared some pictures of the experience Rhett called “one for the books.”

Rhett and his wife Lauren are expecting their third child in 2020. The “Look What God Gave Her” singer also released his first two holiday songs last month.
