PRC Will Hold First Chemical Collection On June 27th

June 23, 2020

The Pennsylvania Resources Council (PRC) will host the first of six household chemical collections on Saturday, June 27thfrom 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Wild Things Park in Washington.

The PRC will introduce new COVID-19 safety measures by introducing a $20 flat fee per vehicle.

“By charging a flat fee we’ll be able to reduce the number of interactions occurring between event participants and staff to promote safety during the current COVID-19 outbreak,” according to Sarah Alessio Shea, PRC Collection Events Manager.  “To streamline the process, we’re asking participants to bring exact change or checks and to stay in their vehicles while the professional contractor staff unloads the vehicles.  When preparing to attend this collection, participants must place all household chemical products in their car trunks or truck beds.”

The flat fee will include the disposal of aerosol cans, automotive fluids, chemistry sets, gasoline and kerosene, household cleaners, mercury thermometers, paint products, pesticides/garden chemicals, photo chemicals and pool chemicals.

Oversized loads will be subject to additional charges.

There will also be a $12 per fire extinguisher and $15 per pound of liquid mercury fee.

“Introduction of the flat fee structure enables PRC to offer a nearly contactless event,” said Shea.  “All PRC staff members in attendance will adhere to the most current safety protocols issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and local health authorities, which may include the wearing of face masks and gloves.”

All participants must adhere to the following guidelines:

1) place all items in car truck or truck bed
2) remain in vehicle at all times
3) bring exact change or check
4) visit PRC’s website for updates before attending the event.

“PRC has scheduled five other household chemical collections to take place throughout 2020, and we plan to reevaluate the fee structure following this first event,” said Shea.  “Due to the ever-changing nature of the COVID-19 pandemic, all event dates, locations, acceptable materials and associated fees are subject to change, so we encourage residents to check for updates before attending an event.”
