What Could We Expect From A Garth Brooks Stadium Concert In Pittsburgh?

If He Comes To Town, Quite A Lot Based On His Stadium Tour Opening Concert At Notre Dame

Garth Brooks kicked off his stadium tour on Saturday night at the legendary Notre Dame Stadium in South Bend, IN.

A crowd of 85,000 plus endured frigid temperatures, pouring rain, gusts during a high wind advisory, and even snow flurries to watch G rock out in the way only he can, while filming a prime time TV special.

Dates have already been announced in St. Louis and Phoenix, and he has promised that shows in five cities will be on sale by the end of the year.

With the tour being a three year affair, does that mean we will see him in Pittsburgh?

Here are some clues as to what we could expect, based on what happened on Saturday:

. Come Hungry

Trisha Yearwood will do the cooking. And it will be great food. “Trisha’s Tailgate” debuted outside Notre Dame Stadium on Saturday afternoon, featuring a design partnership with Williams Sonoma, local wines, and about a dozen cooking stations from Trisha’s own recipes. Trisha and Country music’s BFF Nancy O’Dell mingled with the crowd with television cameras, so watch for it on Entertainment Tonight soon. Trisha’s Tailgate is said to be made available before future Garth stadium shows under a separate food-and-beverage included ticket. Will our tummies win the powerball by having our town be one of those places?

. Yinz It Up Musically

Notre Dame Stadium is about three miles from the state line of Michigan, where Bob Seger reigns supreme. Garth covered not one but two Bob Seger songs, “Night Moves” and “Turn The Page”, to the delight of the crowd (and not just those who drove down in Michigan and Michigan State colors). Which begs the question: would we see Garth cover Donnie Iris here? Joe Greshecky? Christina Aguilera? Wiz Khalifa?

. Hail To…

Garth has promised a college football component throughout the tour. When Saturday’s concert airs on CBS in December, you’ll see plenty of Notre Dame football references like the cheerleaders and even a confetti cannon blast by their famous leprechaun. Pitt’s home field is a major stadium in the North Shore. Will they play a part should Garth come to the ‘Burgh?

. Expect Plenty of Black and Gold

College football inclusion or not, don’t forget that Garth is a proud member of Steelers Nation! He’s a HUGE Steelers fan and hung out at the team’s practice facility when he last visited Pittsburgh in 2015. Mel Blount, Lynn Swann, and Mike Tomlin even joined him on stage. Expect to see and hear about him hanging with many names associated with the black and gold, especially if he were to be in their house, Heinz Field. Will he join James Conner on one of his many, kind charity or hospital visits? Will he ride a bike with Juju?

. Y’all Come Back Now

Garth surprised the crowd (and possibly the President and Provost of the university itself) by announcing from the stage that he had such a great time at Notre Dame to kick off his three year stadium tour, that he will come back to conclude the stadium tour from right there at Notre Dame Stadium! Could that mean that, if he has as much fun here in the land of his beloved Pittsburgh Steelers, that we, too, would get a “boomerang” return visit?

Garth’s first-ever stadium tour does leave us with more questions than answers, but one thing’s for sure: the music is going to be amazing, the crowd is going to love it, and he’ll bring a great party for us. If he comes, that is!
