Even If Fall Sports Move Forward There May Not Be Football

PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Allegheny County health officials say they will work to ensure safe sporting events that meet COVID-19 guidelines should high school sports be played this year.

But there's a catch. The current county limit on outdoor gatherings is 50 people. That would seem to eliminate high school football even if no fans are allowed.

The state has a higher threshold of 250 people.

The state has also approved many school district COVID-19 plans that include protocols for sports.

Allegheny County officials are expected to say more Friday.

Also on Friday, the PIAA will vote on if fall sports will move forward in schools with the indication being they will, going against Governor Tom Wolf’s recommendation.
